Since I was twelve years old and fell through a rotten floor at a dancing studio, I have had trouble with my lower back.

I have always used osteopaths whenever the pain was sufficient to stop my enjoyment of life. However, six years ago things got dramatically worse after yet another fall. I had trouble walking and needed to use a walking stick. I had difficulty walking to the end of the road let alone the 10,000 steps for health!!! I had several courses of physio, hydrotherapy, and accupuncture for pain relief. I stopped using the stick but was still in fairly constant pain.

I found Matt Chappell on the Chek Institute web site and decided that it could do no harm, only to the pocket, and quite honestly when you have constant pain the money is irrelevant. Matt gave me a very thorough evaluation. Qustioned every thing, stretched me every way possible. He then gave me a stretching programme, specific to my body. I faithfully did the exercise every day and within 10 days, I repeat 10 days, the pain in my back had gone. I still had an occassional niggle, but the constant, gnawing pain had gone. For six years I had been in pain, 10 days of Matt's exercises and the relief was unbelievable. To say I was gobsmacked is an understatement. I waited daily, for a month, for the pain to return, but a year on I am still pain free and more active than I have been for the last twenty years.

Now when my husband and I go walking, it his him playing catch-up and I feel so alive and well.

I just wanted to put pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard) to say what a wonderful difference you have made to my physical wellbeing since starting my sessions with Team Breakthrough.

I initially came to see you about a problem with my shoulder, which I had completely knackered through my activities as a Capoerista. Playing Capoeria, you spend a lot of time sustaining your entire body-weight through your arms, which also involves a lot of twisting movements at awkward angles. Therefore, were it not for Dave’s efforts I would have surely had to give it up.

But it didn’t stop there……Dave has also:

  • improved my posture, therefore helping to prevent future injuries.
  • Given great dietary advice via Metablolic typing, making sure I eat the right foods to provide my body with what it needs and avoid what it doesn’t.
  • Corrected old muscle injuries and trained muscle-groups specific to my personal sporting needs.

I realise now that had I just gone to the gym to ‘keep fit’, I would have slowly but surely been doing myself more damage than good, which through Dave’s professional and motivational sessions I have been able to not only avoid, but work towards preventing in the future.

During an unfortunate incident in our last session, involving a 10KG medicine ball, Dave’s head, a mild concussion and lots of laughing, Dave still maintained professionalism (and a big red mark on his head). I write this testimonial for David to recommend his skills in deep tissue massage therapy.

A few weeks ago I had strained a muscle in my side, which made it painful for me to twist round and look over my shoulder. Since I see David regularly for fitness and personal training, I asked if he could help.

He immediately set to work on my back, identifying the muscles that needed attention and after just under an hour of treatment I was amazed at how much improvement in my movement David had achieved.

My wife has also had recent neck and shoulder stiffness and I had no hesitation in recommending David for therapy.

Helen is now moving freely and is out of pain.

David is extremely knowledgeable about anatomy and muscle function and he has a very professional and sympathetic approach to his work and the deep tissue massage that he performs is extremely effective.

Before I went to see Dave I was pretty unfit and had low confidence in my physical ability. I found the thought of having a one-on-one session with a personal trainer daunting and put off going to see him for some time!

However, Dave’s warm and friendly approach and the quick results I have seen have completely changed my attitude. He is full of encouragement and has spurred me on to achieve a level of fitness which I never thought possible. As a welcome side effect of my improved fitness I am also considerably more toned than when I started. His sports massage has also ironed out strains in my neck from sitting at the computer.

Dave’s training regime does not stop at the sessions in his studio. He supplies “Homework” in the form of exercise and stretching programs to follow at home if you wish. He also analysed my diet and provided me with some nutritional guidelines which have led to fantastic increases in my energy levels.

I would recommend Dave’s services without hesitation. He is a good motivator and his sessions are very varied. You will soon find yourself feeling healthier and wish that you had gone to see him years ago!

I am just coming to the end of an eight week period of intense work.

Eighteen months ago I was getting a migrane at least every fortnight, and weekly during periods of tiredness like these past weeks: that would probably have been 7 or 8 migranes. However in the last two months I have had only one migrane, thanks to the treatment I have been receiving from Dave for the past year.

His deep tissue massage has released tensions(traumas) I have been carrying in my body since childhood and Dave’s knowledge and skill has enabled him to work on some locked in muscles which were not obvious but are linked to those which seem to cause the headaches, really getting to the root of my trouble.

At the same time Dave has looked at my nutrition and through this has addressed my hormonal imbalance which has contributed largely to the cause of the migranes for the last five years.

Dave has a phenomenal understanding of how the body works: his knowledge and understanding are really extensive. He is one of only a very few people in this country with the breadth of knowledge and qualification he has. In addition he has a caring approach coupled with an open mind which makes him quite special.

I am writing to recommend David’s services. As someone who plays a great deal of racket sports I was under the illusion that I was quite fit but also quite mobile, flexible and had good posture. The sessions with David have been enormously valuable in improving my flexibility and also in exercising muscles that I ordinarily haven’t. David makes the sessions varied and enjoyable as well as hard work.

I have always been very active and competed at the higher levels of my sport.

I am a long distance runner. I thought I was in great shape until one day I developed serious back pain and could barely get out of bed never mind run a marathon. I saw the doctor who could only give my anti inflammatorys and went to see an orthopaedic surgeon. The orthopaedic surgeon diagnosed me with a prolapsed disc between L3 and L4 and advised considering spinal surgery. It felt like my world had been turned upside down. I had heard professionals say that once you operated your chance of performing at the same level again were massively reduced. I couldn’t accept this.

I decided to go to see Dave Wilby from Team Breakthrough after hearing about the work he did with a elite footballer who I was close to. He couldn’t recommend him highly enough. Boy am I glad I did. Dave did a full evaluation of the biomechanics of my body. We identified what was occurring and why it had occurred in the first place. We did lots of work to centralise the disc and then create segmental stability in my lumbar spine. We then addressed all the causative factors of the problem and began training again away from the injury. After 6 weeks I had hardly any back pain and after 10 weeks I was back running again but this time in conjunction with a conditioning programme of Dave’s choice.

The results I have achieved are incredible and I owe it to Dave’s brilliant knowledge and expert guidance.

As a semi-professional rugby player, I have suffered from recurring injuries for the last 5 years.

I have been suffering from a sharp pain, swelling and tightness in the top of my left leg. It was especially bad when kicking or side stepping.

I had tried sports massage and stretching which had helped to some extent but the pain always returned. I also suffered from pain and pins and needles from both shoulders down to the hands and fingers. I tried osteopathy and acupuncture to no avail.I also was beginning to develop consistent pain in my left knee.It was really starting to get me down as I could only manage a couple of games before I would be back on the treatment couch.

I decided to see Dave to help condition me during the summer months so I would be ready for this season. To be honest I wasn’t holding out too much hope that I could be helped. Dave meticulously designed a training program that would address all of my injuries while at the same time training me towards my sports specific goals. There is 2 games to go to the end of the season I am yet to get injured. In fact, I’m kicking better and further than ever. I’ve had no pain, I feel faster, stronger and more powerful than ever.

This has shown with my try tally for the season which is by far the best I’ve ever totalled In 2 games time I will be buying Dave a big thankyou present and celebrating promotion while considering another great summer of training that we have ahead of us.

I went to Team Breakthrough as I wanted to tone up, get back my waistline and look good for my 10th wedding anniversary. All of which I am pleased to confirm I have achieved with the help of Dave Wilby.

I had used a personal trainer before so I recognised the benefits of using one. However, as the vodka advert says – that was before I met Dave. He takes personal training to a new dimension.

Every session is fun and enjoyable even if it is hard work. He combines postural and core stability work. The exercises were original and different to anything I had done. There is no chance to get bored or stuck in a routine as he frequently changes the programme to ensure that you are progressing and achieving results. He is also a great motivator and very professional in his approach.

Dave also advises on nutrition and will provide home work for those clients who are prepared to supplement the sessions at the Team Breakthrough studio.

My anniversary has now past but I am still training with Dave as I fell good and more energised and I do not want to lose that feeling. I cannot recommend him highly enough.

 
 

I have recently completed a short session of personal training with Dave Wilby of Team Breakthrough.

I have used the “Living Wells” gym at the Hilton Hotel without too much success because I am not the most disciplined person when it comes to using an exercise routine.

Dave not only carefully assessed my specific physiological needs, but he also provided me with a variety of different exercise routines that addressed them. Dave’s attention and approach have encouraged me to see that exercise can be both rewarding and fun. I have genuinely felt the benefits of one-to-one tuition.In addition Dave’s insight about the right diet for me has been challenging and thought provoking.
